Upgrade stock 2007 ford f150 xl stereo
I drove the truck today for over two hours (typical day anyway) and got some listening time in and i’m Just not warming up to these new mids. Thanks therapture, I’m glad to hear your system is coming together now. The plastic frame is a design trait that all the IDXS mids share by design. The AF tweeters haven’t come yet so those will have to wait. Going to do the tuning today for the mids. Careful proper gain setting, HP filter set at 80 linkwitz riley 24 db, and they were happy mids ready to sing unrestrained by power limits and with new found clarity compared to being run from the stock HU with about 8 watts rms and no LP filter. The stock woofers had 25 watts stamped on them but the amplifier is rated for 100 watts rms. He didn’t have a DSP though so goes to show you just how much of a SQ improvement you can gain from one with the right tuning. When I told him it had stock Ford door woofers and $21 tweeters he didn’t believe me. I had a co worker with a more expensive system in his truck audition mine and he was impressed. Just get the self stick cling wrap because ever since they went BPA free with the original version it doesn’t cling like it used to. Carpet protector is another option but that stuff ain’t cheap. :laugh:įorgot to mention you can use cling wrap to trace vs what I used but same **** really. This includes some extensive door treatment too.Ģ) upgrade the tweeters to AudioFrog GB10 In either the stock location (A pillars) or install them into the sail panel, haven’t decided yet.ģ) clean up the sub box so it doesn’t look so rough.Ĥ) clean up and organize the overall installation of equipment and wiring so it doesn’t look like buddy hacket installed it hey, it’s a work truck and I was in a rush + I can be impatient. The results might surprise you.ġ) Upgrade the stock Ford woofers to some Image Dynamic XS57 mids I scored off eBay cheap BNIB. Before anyone discounts their stock speakers I suggest you try and amp them and banpass and tune them from a DSP. It’s not going to win any SQ contests but it does sound real good for what it is. Now this truck I think has surprised some people who have listened to it. Some cheap Parts Express sound dampening and a $99 monoblock amplifier from a sale on Crutchfield makes up the rest. The door woofers are the stock 6x8 woofers run actively from the DSP/amps. The 4-channel amplifier I won so that was $0 dollars, the tweeters are $21 Parts Express home audio tweeters.

It has a Sundown SD3 10 subwoofer which I like very much and is about the most expensive speaker in the truck.

It has a JL Fix86 and TwK 88 DSP and some budget amplifiers you see In the signature below. This truck has already been sort of built but now i’m Ready to make a few upgrades because I have to listen to this thing every day for 2 hours or more. Been lurking here for a while but have never actually posted much in terms of builds.
